The substrate must be sound, dry, clean and free from contaminants before application. Mix the complete kit in line with F. Ball’s current technical instructions, fill joints or apply a thin, even coat as required, then allow it to dry before applying the compatible smoothing compound. Confirm the correct system combination for the specific subfloor before starting work.
STOPGAP Fill and Prime is a flexible, two-component cement-based primer that fills and primes in one preparation stage. It is particularly useful for raised access panels and other substrates where joints need to be filled before a compatible smoothing compound is applied.
Its thixotropic consistency allows it to fill joints up to 4mm wide while the cured finish remains flexible enough to accommodate normal substrate movement. The fast-drying 6.6kg kit helps reduce downtime, with foot traffic possible from approximately 60 minutes.
STOPGAP Fill and Prime 6.6kg Kit is a fast-drying, two-component flexible cement-based primer. It is designed to fill and prime joints in raised access panels and prepare selected substrates before the application of compatible STOPGAP smoothing compounds.
Ensure the substrate is clean, sound, dry and free from loose debris or contaminants. The product can fill raised-access-panel joints up to 4mm wide and can be applied on horizontal surfaces at up to 1mm thickness.
Mix the powder and liquid components in the proportions supplied, following the current F. Ball technical data sheet. Apply with suitable tools, working the material firmly into joints and leaving an even coating across the prepared area.
At 20°C and up to 1mm thickness, the surface is normally ready to receive foot traffic after around 60 minutes. Confirm the correct smoothing compound for the substrate, such as STOPGAP 1200, 1500 or 700 where specified.

STOPGAP Fill and Prime is a preparatory layer and should be kept clean and protected after it has cured. Avoid contaminating the treated surface with dust, moisture, oil or site debris before the compatible smoothing compound is applied.
Check that filled joints and primed areas are sound and even before progressing. It is not a final floor surface; maintenance thereafter will follow the requirements of the smoothing compound and finished floor system.
