For best results, install the vinyl flooring first, then groove the joint to the correct depth before hot welding. Choose the weld rod to match the flooring colour and use suitable professional welding equipment. Once cooled, the weld should be trimmed neatly to leave a smooth finished seam.
Gerflor CR40 is a PVC welding rod for finishing joints between compatible Gerflor vinyl sheets. Used with a hot-air welding tool, it fuses into a prepared seam to create a clean, strong and watertight connection.
The 100 metre coil is a practical option for commercial installations where there are numerous joints to complete. Available in a wide selection of Gerflor-matched colours, it helps the seam blend naturally with the selected floor for a more professional finish.
Correctly welded seams support easier cleaning and help prevent moisture entering between vinyl sheets. This makes CR40 particularly valuable in hygiene-conscious and heavy-use environments, including healthcare, education and commercial interiors.
Gerflor CR40 is a 4mm PVC weld rod for hot-welding compatible Gerflor PVC sheet flooring. Select the correct colour and confirm compatibility with the precise flooring range before work begins. Do not use this standard rod where a conductive, ESD or specialist welding rod is required.
Wait until the flooring adhesive has cured sufficiently, then groove the sheet joints to the required width and depth. Vacuum the groove thoroughly before welding. Use a professional hot-air welding tool with a suitable speed nozzle, maintaining the temperature and travel speed recommended for the specific floor and site conditions.
Feed the rod continuously into the groove so it fuses evenly with both sheet edges. Trim surplus rod in two stages: a first trim while warm and a final trim once cool. This produces a smoother seam and reduces the risk of a sunken weld. Only experienced installers should carry out hot welding.

After installation, Gerflor CR40 becomes an integral part of the PVC floor seam. Clean the finished floor with the manufacturer-approved routine, ensuring that abrasive dirt does not build up along the weld line.
Inspect seams regularly in areas exposed to water, intensive cleaning or high footfall. A damaged weld should be repaired by a competent flooring contractor to help preserve the floor’s hygienic, durable and watertight finish.
