Prepare the subfloor so it is sound, clean and free from loose material. Mix the complete system only in accordance with F. Ball’s current instructions, then apply at the required depth using suitable smoothing tools. Always confirm compatibility with the existing substrate, adhesive residue and final floor-covering system before starting work.
STOPGAP 1200 PRO is a fast-setting, two-component smoothing compound for preparing sound internal subfloors before new floor coverings are installed. Supplied as a powder bag and matching liquid bottle, the system is designed to provide a dependable smooth finish when rapid progress on site is important.
It is particularly useful in refurbishment work because it can be applied over suitable old adhesive residues, including bitumen and carpet-tile tackifier residues, without priming. Its fast drying properties allow flooring projects to move on quickly, with foot traffic possible from around one hour and most floor coverings ready to install from around four hours.
STOPGAP 1200 PRO is a low-odour, fast-setting, fast-drying two-component smoothing compound supplied as a bag-and-bottle system. It is designed for preparing sound internal subfloors and can be used over a broad range of suitable substrates, including well-bonded old adhesive residues.
Prepare the substrate so it is clean, sound and free from loose material. Confirm the correct preparation method for the surface; STOPGAP 1200 can be applied over compatible adhesive residues without priming, while other substrates or site conditions may require additional treatment.
Mix the complete components in the proportions specified in the current F. Ball technical data sheet until the compound is smooth and lump-free. Apply evenly at the required thickness; it is normally used from 2mm to 10mm and can be built up to 30mm where required.
The surface is typically walkable from around 60 minutes and can receive floorcoverings from approximately 4 hours, depending on thickness and ambient conditions.

Once STOPGAP 1200 PRO has cured, keep the prepared surface clean, dry and protected until the final floorcovering is installed. It is a smoothing layer rather than a finished wearing surface, so prevent damage from site traffic, tools, moisture and contamination.
Before adhesive or flooring is applied, remove all dust and check for any surface damage or unevenness. Follow the care guidance for the final floorcovering once the installation is complete.
