Ensure the subfloor is dry, sound and free from dust, laitance, grease and loose material before application. Prepare and prime the surface in line with the manufacturer’s guidance, then mix the powder with clean water until smooth and lump-free. Apply with suitable smoothing tools and allow the compound to dry fully before installing the final floor covering.
STOPGAP Red Bag is a water-mix, self-smoothing compound for preparing sound, absorbent internal subfloors before fitting new floor coverings. It creates a smooth, stable base over concrete, sand/cement screeds and other solid absorbent surfaces.
Supplied as a 25kg powder bag, it is mixed with clean water on site and is designed for light to medium-duty flooring projects. Its low-odour, protein-free formulation also makes it suitable for biologically sensitive environments.
STOPGAP RED BAG is a water-mix, self-smoothing compound for sound, absorbent internal subfloors. It is designed for light- to medium-duty applications over concrete, sand/cement screeds and other suitable solid absorbent surfaces.
Ensure the background is clean, dry, sound and free from laitance, dust, loose material and contaminants. Prime the substrate with the recommended primer, allowing it to dry fully before the smoothing compound is applied.
Mix the 25kg powder with clean water as specified in the current F. Ball technical data sheet. Apply evenly at 3mm to 10mm and use a spiked roller where needed to release trapped air and improve the surface finish. For deeper areas, the mix can be filled up to 15mm in accordance with F. Ball’s instructions.
At 20°C, STOPGAP RED BAG is normally walkable after around 3 hours and can generally receive floorcoverings from approximately 24 hours, depending on thickness and site conditions.

After STOPGAP RED BAG has cured, protect the smooth subfloor from dirt, moisture, impact damage and unnecessary traffic until it receives the final flooring. Remove dust and loose debris before adhesive or a compatible membrane is applied.
This is a preparation compound rather than a completed floor finish. Once the floorcovering is installed, follow the manufacturer’s cleaning and maintenance instructions for that final surface.
