The subfloor must be smooth, dry, sound and correctly prepared before priming. Check moisture conditions, apply STOPGAP P121 in accordance with F. Ball’s current technical data sheet and allow it to dry before applying the compatible smoothing compound or adhesive system.
STOPGAP P121 is a blue acrylic primer formulated for calcium sulphate screeds, including anhydrite. It helps prepare the subfloor for STOPGAP 1100 and other compatible smoothing compounds, supporting better application characteristics and a more reliable flooring base.
By controlling the absorbency of the prepared substrate, P121 helps prevent adhesives and smoothing compounds from drying too quickly. The pigmented blue colour provides a clear visual guide during application, making it easier to check that coverage is uniform.
STOPGAP P121 is a 5L acrylic primer formulated for calcium sulphate screeds, including anhydrite. It supports the application of STOPGAP 1100 and other suitable smoothing compounds, helping to prevent the substrate from drawing moisture too quickly from the next layer.
The subfloor must be smooth, dry, sound and properly prepared. Remove laitance, dust, weak surface material and contaminants before priming. Confirm that the screed has reached the required moisture condition before commencing the flooring system.
Apply P121 evenly in accordance with the current F. Ball technical data sheet. Its blue pigment provides a useful visual check that the surface has been fully covered. Allow each coat to dry fully before applying a subsequent coat or smoothing compound.
At 20°C, the first coat normally dries in approximately 15–30 minutes; allow around 30 minutes for the second coat before applying the smoothing compound. Coverage is approximately 10m² per litre, depending on the subfloor’s condition and absorbency

STOPGAP P121 is a primer layer and should be kept clean and undisturbed once dry. Do not allow dust, moisture, foot traffic or contamination to affect the primed surface before the smoothing compound or adhesive is applied.
Check that the blue coating is even and continuous before continuing. If the primed surface becomes dirty or is left exposed beyond the manufacturer’s recommended period, prepare it again as directed before proceeding.
