Fit the gripper around the perimeter of the room, leaving enough space from the wall for the carpet edge to be tucked in neatly. Ensure the timber subfloor is sound and securely fixed before installation. Use with a suitable underlay and stretch the carpet onto the gripper pins for the finished result.
Wood Gripper is a carpet gripper for stretch-fit carpet installations over timber subfloors. Fixed around the perimeter of the room, it gives the carpet a secure anchoring point, allowing it to be stretched tight and tucked neatly along the wall edge.
It is the right choice for boarded floors, suspended timber floors and other suitable wooden subfloors. Each box contains 100 lengths, providing 152 linear metres of gripper for larger fitting jobs or multiple rooms.
Wood gripper is intended for stretch-fitting carpet over boarded or suspended timber subfloors. The pre-nailed strip is fixed around the room perimeter, with angled pins that grip the carpet as it is stretched into position.
Ensure the timber subfloor is dry, sound, clean and securely fixed before starting. Check for concealed services and remove any existing loose gripper, nails or debris. Measure the room, cut the strips neatly to length and place them around the perimeter.
Position the pins so they face the wall, leaving a gap between the gripper and skirting that is approximately equal to the carpet thickness. Fix the strips firmly into the timber subfloor with the supplied or suitable wood nails, keeping the runs straight and joints close together.
Lay underlay inside the gripper line, then stretch the carpet over the pins using suitable carpet-fitting tools. Secure the carpet evenly around the room and tuck the edges into the perimeter gap for a tidy finish.

Wood carpet gripper is hidden beneath the carpet once installation is complete, so it requires no routine cleaning. Maintain the carpet normally and investigate the perimeter if the carpet becomes loose, develops ripples or no longer holds its tension.
If the carpet is lifted in future, inspect the gripper for worn pins, loose nails or damaged timber. Replace compromised sections before fitting new underlay or carpet to maintain a secure perimeter fixing.
