Fit the gripper around the perimeter of the room, leaving a suitable gap from the wall for the carpet to be tucked and stretched. Check that the fixing method is appropriate for the particular subfloor, and use a suitable underlay for the carpet installation.
Dual gripper is a versatile carpet gripper designed for use on both timber and concrete subfloors. It provides the secure perimeter fixing needed for a traditional stretch-fit carpet installation, giving the carpet a firm edge to grip onto once it has been tensioned into position.
It is particularly useful on projects where the subfloor changes from room to room, removing the need to buy separate grippers for timber and solid-floor areas. Supplied in 1.52 m lengths, it is a straightforward trade essential for achieving a neat, reliable carpet finish.
Dual gripper is designed for stretch-fitted carpet installations over most timber and concrete subfloors. Its angled pins hold the carpet securely at the perimeter, while the dual-purpose fixing arrangement gives flexibility across common subfloor types.
Prepare the subfloor so it is dry, clean, level and structurally sound. Check for concealed services before nailing into timber or concrete. Measure the room perimeter, cut the gripper neatly to length and position each strip with the pins angled towards the wall.
Leave a gap of approximately the carpet thickness between the gripper and the wall or skirting, allowing the carpet edge to be tucked down after stretching. Fix the gripper securely using the appropriate method for the subfloor, ensuring every length is straight and firmly held.
Lay the underlay within the gripper perimeter without covering the pins. Stretch the carpet evenly using suitable professional fitting tools, hook it securely onto the gripper and tuck the edge neatly into the perimeter gap.

Dual carpet gripper is concealed after the carpet is fitted and needs no separate day-to-day maintenance. Care for the finished carpet as recommended, and inspect the perimeter if the carpet starts to lose tension or lift away from the edges.
When replacing carpet, assess the existing gripper for loose fixings, broken pins, damaged timber or moisture damage. New gripper should be used where the existing strips no longer provide a firm, even fixing.
