For best results, the flooring should be fully installed and the seams correctly grooved before welding. Use a suitable hot-air welding tool, select a matching rod colour and trim the weld once it has cooled. This product is intended for use by trained flooring installers.
Forbo Vinyl Weld Rod is a practical finishing accessory for professionally installed sheet vinyl floors. Used with a hot-air welding tool, it fills prepared joints between vinyl sheets to create a neat, durable and hygienic seam.
Supplied on a generous 50 metre reel, it is a reliable choice for larger installations as well as smaller repair or finishing work. The rod is available in a range of colours to complement Forbo vinyl collections, helping the finished floor look more seamless and considered.
It is suitable for Forbo Step, Wetroom, Eternal and Acoustic vinyl products. Once correctly welded and trimmed, the joint is easier to clean and better suited to environments where a continuous, hygienic floor finish is important.
Select a Forbo Vinyl Weld Rod that is compatible with the specific vinyl range and chosen colour. This product is for suitable PVC vinyl flooring; it must not be substituted for a specialist rod intended for linoleum or other floor materials.
Allow the flooring adhesive to set fully before welding. Groove the sheet-vinyl joints to the profile and depth specified by the flooring manufacturer, vacuum away all loose debris, then heat-weld using a professional hot-air welding tool and the correct nozzle. Work at a controlled speed so the rod fuses evenly into the groove without scorching the floor.
Trim the excess weld in two stages using appropriate welding tools: first while the rod is warm, then once it has cooled. The finished weld should be smooth, continuous and level with the floor surface. Welding should be carried out by an experienced flooring installer, particularly where a sealed or watertight finish is required.

Once welded and trimmed correctly, the rod becomes part of the finished vinyl floor and should be cleaned using the floor covering manufacturer’s recommended routine. Keep the seam free from abrasive dirt and avoid aggressive cleaners that could dull the surrounding vinyl or leave residue along the join.
Inspect welded seams periodically in wet, hygiene-critical and high-traffic areas. If a seam becomes split, lifted or damaged, arrange a professional repair promptly to preserve the continuity of the floor surface.
