Before fitting, make sure the subfloor is clean, dry, smooth and level. Lay the underlay flat with joins closely butted together and no overlaps, then fit the carpet using suitable gripper and installation methods. Follow the carpet manufacturer’s guidance for the complete flooring system.
Corlay Jute Felt Underlay 42 oz is a substantial carpet underlay for installations where a traditional felt base is preferred. At 11 mm thick, it gives the carpet a firm, supportive foundation and a more comfortable feel underfoot.
Designed for commercial and contract use, it provides 34 dB sound insulation to help reduce impact noise travelling through the floor. Each roll covers 15.07 m², making it a practical choice for larger carpeted spaces and professional flooring projects.
Placed beneath a compatible carpet, this underlay helps protect the carpet from the subfloor and supports its appearance over time. It is easy to install as part of a standard stretch-fit carpet system.
Allow the rolls to acclimatise in the room before fitting. The subfloor must be dry, clean, smooth and structurally sound, with protruding fixings, loose material and uneven areas corrected before the underlay is laid.
Fit suitable carpet gripper around the perimeter, leaving clearance from skirting boards and door thresholds as required. Lay the jute-felt underlay with the sections running neatly across the room, keeping every joint close-butted without overlaps or gaps. Secure the joints with suitable underlay tape and trim the material cleanly around edges, doorways and fixed features.
Install the carpet using the appropriate fitting method for the selected carpet and location. For contract or heavy-use areas, ensure that the carpet, underlay and fixing system are all suitable for the expected traffic level.

Once fitted beneath the carpet, Corlay Jute Felt Underlay does not need routine cleaning or treatment. Its role is to provide a resilient, cushioned layer that supports the carpet and helps reduce impact noise, so the carpet above should be maintained in line with its own care guidance.
Keep the underlay dry at all times. If a major spill reaches the subfloor or there is a plumbing leak, lift and inspect the carpet and underlay promptly; prolonged moisture can affect the flooring system and lead to odours or deterioration. Avoid soaking the carpet during cleaning, and use a professional cleaner where a deep clean is required.
