Mechanically prepare external surfaces so they are sound, surface dry, clean and free from contaminants. Mix STOPGAP 850 with clean water in accordance with F. Ball’s current technical data sheet and apply at the required depth. Where the compound will remain exposed, use a scratch coat and brush finish to create a more natural, textured surface with improved slip resistance.
STOPGAP 850 is a non-structural exterior resurfacing compound for smoothing and levelling rough, worn or mechanically damaged concrete and sand/cement screeds. It is designed for light to medium-duty areas and can be left as an exterior wearing surface once fully cured.
Its water-mix, protein-free formulation can be applied externally to areas such as balconies, patios, garages and walkways. It can also be used internally over damp, uneven concrete or sand/cement screeds before applying a STOPGAP waterproof surface membrane.
STOPGAP 850 is a non-structural, water-mix exterior resurfacing compound for smoothing and levelling worn, rough or mechanically damaged concrete and sand/cement screeds. It is suited to light- and medium-duty balconies, patios, garages and walkways, and may be left as a finished surface.
Prepare the substrate so it is sound, clean and free from loose material, contamination and weak surface layers. Repair substantial defects before application, and confirm that the background is suitable for an exterior resurfacing system.
Mix the 25kg powder with clean water in accordance with the current technical data sheet, then apply evenly at 5mm to 15mm. For deeper repairs, the compound can be filled up to 50mm as specified by F. Ball. Where a more textured finish is needed, apply a scratch coat and brush it to the required profile.
At 20°C, the surface is normally walkable after around 2 hours and can be sealed from approximately 24 hours. Drying times depend on thickness, temperature and site conditions.

When STOPGAP 850 is left as the finished wearing surface, sweep or clean it regularly to remove abrasive dirt and prevent debris building up. Clean spillages promptly with a suitable cleaner, particularly in external access areas.
The cured compound is water- and frost-resistant, but it should be allowed to dry fully before being exposed to regular use or weather. If a protective or non-slip coating is required, maintain that coating in line with its manufacturer’s instructions.
