ARDEX K 40 HB is a fibre-reinforced, high-build levelling compound for internal floors that need more than a thin smoothing layer. It is designed for applications from 3mm up to 40mm in one go, making it a good option for uneven subfloors, deeper low spots and larger areas that need building up before the final floor covering is fitted.
Despite being suitable for deeper applications, K 40 HB still has a smooth flow and is easy to work with. It spreads well, helping joins between mixes blend together and allowing trowel marks to settle out. This can reduce the amount of patching or rubbing down needed before flooring is installed.
The surface can be walked on after approximately two hours, even at its maximum application depth. If applied up to 5mm, resilient flooring and timber finishes can be fitted after around six hours. Thicker applications up to 40mm require up to 48 hours before receiving these finishes. Ceramic tiles can be fixed after approximately two hours.
Prepare the subfloor so it is stable, clean and free from dust, grease, loose material and contaminants. Complete any required repairs, moisture control or priming before applying the compound, using the preparation method appropriate to the substrate.
Mix the 22kg bag with clean water at the manufacturer’s stated ratio until a smooth, lump-free, free-flowing consistency is achieved. Pour the material onto the prepared floor and distribute it with a trowel or pin leveller. A spiked roller may be used while the surface remains wet to help blend joins between mixes and improve the finish.

ARDEX K 40 HB provides a prepared base for the final floor finish and should not be left as an exposed wearing surface. After installation, keep it clean, dry and protected from traffic, impact and site contamination until the chosen floor covering is applied.
Before proceeding, inspect the surface for dust, loose material or damage caused by other trades. Any defects should be repaired before adhesive or flooring is installed, helping to maintain a smooth, even base.
