Prepare the timber subfloor so it is dry, stable, clean and securely fixed. Lay the plywood sheets with staggered joints and fasten them in accordance with the floor-covering system and adhesive manufacturer’s instructions. Any joints or fixing points should be made smooth before installing the final flooring.
SP101 Plywood 6mm Large Sheet is a flooring-grade plywood underlay for preparing internal timber subfloors before the finished floor covering is installed. Its consistent surface quality and accurate panel dimensions make it well suited to professional floor-preparation work, helping create a smoother base for resilient flooring.
The large 2.44m x 1.22m board covers approximately 2.98m², making it an efficient option for rooms and larger refurbishment areas. The nominal 6mm thickness provides a more substantial preparation layer where a stronger plywood underlay is required.
This 6mm SP101 large sheet measures 2440mm x 1220mm and is intended for subfloor preparation. Carry out moisture checks on both the existing timber subfloor and the plywood before installation; Hanson advises that their moisture contents should be within 2% of each other.
Prepare the subfloor by removing dirt, debris and raised imperfections so each sheet can lie as flat as possible. Where fitting over floorboards, lay the plywood perpendicular to the boards where practical and stagger the panel joints.
Cut accurately around walls and fixed fittings, then use a suitable fixing method for the substrate. Hanson recommends countersunk fixings at maximum 100mm centres around the perimeter, approximately 12mm from the sheet edge, and at maximum 150mm centres across the sheet.
Ensure the finished surface is level, dry and free from dust before laying the final floorcovering. Refer to the Hanson SP101 application guidelines before installation.

SP101 plywood is installed beneath the finished floorcovering, so it should be kept dry, clean and protected during the remainder of the project. Do not allow moisture, wet trades, heavy traffic or stored materials to damage the board surface or edges.
Before the final flooring is fitted, check that all fasteners are flush and that the boards remain smooth, stable and free from swelling or contamination. Allow any water-based seam filler or levelling compound to dry fully and return to moisture equilibrium before continuing.
