Ball & Young Cirrus is a 9mm premium carpet underlay from the Cloud 9 range. It is designed to add comfort, warmth and sound reduction beneath carpet without creating too much extra height under doors.
The 9mm profile gives a soft, supportive feel underfoot, making it a good choice for bedrooms and living rooms. Its Cloud 9 APT core helps provide a stable base beneath the carpet, while the underlay’s recovery properties help it retain its shape during normal domestic use.
Cirrus also helps make a room feel quieter, offering impact sound reduction of between 39dB and 41dB. With a 2.6 tog thermal rating, it adds useful insulation between the carpet and subfloor, helping create a warmer feel underfoot.
The underlay includes Ultra-Fresh antimicrobial technology, which helps keep the underlay and carpet fresher by reducing the growth of fungi and bacteria. It is easy to handle and is suitable for stretch-fit carpet installations in luxury domestic settings.
Prepare the subfloor before fitting: it should be clean, dry, flat and secure, with loose debris, protruding fixings and uneven areas removed or repaired. Allow the underlay to lie flat in the room before trimming.
Lay the underlay neatly across the floor, keeping adjoining edges tightly butted without overlap. Cut it carefully to the room perimeter and around door frames or fixed features, then seal the joins with suitable underlay tape.
Install gripper where needed around the room perimeter, then fit the carpet using the manufacturer’s recommended stretch-fitting method. Cirrus is suitable for general and luxury domestic rooms, including living rooms and bedrooms, and is also suitable for wood-block floors.

Ball & Young Cirrus Cloud 9 is a carpet underlay and is protected once the carpet is fitted. Maintain the carpet above in accordance with its care instructions, and deal with spills or leaks promptly to reduce the risk of moisture reaching the underlay and subfloor.
If the carpet is removed for renovation or replacement, check the underlay for signs of crushing, tearing or water damage. Any affected sections should be replaced before the carpet is refitted.
