Before fitting, make sure the existing subfloor is dry, clean, sound and level enough for the intended installation. Plan the sheet layout to stagger joints and avoid weak points, then use the appropriate fixing method for the subfloor. Always check the floor-covering manufacturer’s fitting instructions to confirm that 6mm plywood is suitable for your chosen product and installation method.
This 6mm large plywood sheet is a practical floor-preparation material for projects that require a smooth, even base before the final floor covering is fitted. The generous 2.44m x 1.22m sheet size helps cover larger areas with fewer joins, making it a convenient choice for renovation and installation work.
At 6mm thick, it is commonly used as part of a correctly specified subfloor-preparation system. Once securely fixed and prepared, it can help provide a more consistent surface for compatible floor finishes.
Before installation, check that the plywood specification is suitable for the intended flooring system and subfloor. Bring the sheets into the installation environment in advance so they can acclimatise to site conditions.
The existing subfloor must be dry, stable, clean and free from movement. Repair loose boards, uneven areas and protruding fixings before laying the plywood. Plan the layout so sheet joints are staggered and do not align with existing subfloor joints where possible.
Cut the 2.44m x 1.22m sheets accurately and leave the required expansion gaps around walls, fixed objects and between boards, in accordance with the flooring manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure all board edges are properly supported by the substrate.

Countersink fixings neatly so no heads sit proud of the surface. Fill, sand or smooth joints only where required by the flooring system before installation of the finished floor.

Store 6mm plywood sheets flat, fully supported and raised clear of the ground in a dry, enclosed area. Keep them protected from rain, standing water and excessive humidity, which can cause boards to warp or swell.
Avoid leaning full sheets upright for extended periods, as this can lead to bowing. Handle corners and edges carefully to prevent damage before installation.
Once fitted as a subfloor lining, keep the surface clean and dry until the floor covering is installed. Do not allow spills, adhesive residues or damage from other trades to remain on the plywood.
