The subfloor should be clean, dry, smooth and free from dust, grease or other contaminants before fitting. For double-stick installations, apply a compatible adhesive evenly to the subfloor and then to the underlay as directed by the adhesive manufacturer. Follow the green stripe orientation and the carpet manufacturer’s fitting instructions.
Duralay Durafit 650 is a high-density crumb rubber underlay developed for commercial carpet installations where durability matters most. At 6.5 mm thick, it provides a firm, stable foundation beneath carpet while offering more cushioning and insulation than the thinner Durafit 500.
It is particularly well suited to areas with regular footfall and wheeled traffic. The woven polypropylene backing supports dimensional stability, while the black surface makes it easier to see adhesive coverage during double-stick installation. A green stripe indicates the correct orientation when fitting.
Durafit 650 is designed for heavy contract use and can help carpet stay flatter and look better for longer in demanding environments. It is suitable for both double-stick and stretch-fit carpet installations.
Durafit 650 is designed for a double-stick carpet installation. Acclimatise the underlay in the installation area, then prepare a subfloor that is dry, smooth, clean and structurally sound. Remove loose debris, old adhesive residues and defects that could affect adhesion or show through the finished carpet.
Apply the specified adhesive to the prepared subfloor in accordance with the adhesive manufacturer’s coverage and tack-time instructions. Lay the underlay carefully into the adhesive, following the product’s backing markings for the correct orientation. Roll it thoroughly to achieve even contact, then form close, clean joints without overlaps.
Once the underlay bond has cured as required, install the carpet with a compatible adhesive. Ensure full adhesive transfer across the area, particularly at seams, borders, entrances and areas used by wheeled traffic. Roll and finish the carpet in line with the carpet and adhesive manufacturers’ instructions.

Once the carpet is installed, Duralay Durafit 650 needs no separate cleaning or surface treatment. The high-density crumb-rubber underlay is designed to provide stable support beneath contract carpet in demanding spaces, helping the finished floor retain a more even appearance over time.
Keep the flooring assembly dry. Investigate leaks, flooding or excessive wet cleaning promptly, as moisture trapped beneath the carpet can affect the adhesive bond, subfloor and surrounding finishes. Any damaged area should be assessed before the carpet is put back into service.
