Before fitting, ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, smooth and level. Follow the installation guidance for the laminate or engineered wood floor being used, including any requirements for moisture protection and expansion gaps. Confirm compatibility with the flooring manufacturer before installation, particularly where underfloor heating is present.
CFS Recolay 4.5 mm Underlay is a high-performance acoustic underlay designed for laminate and engineered wood flooring. It is a good option when you want to improve comfort underfoot and reduce the transfer of impact noise without building up the floor too much.
Made from 100% recycled cork and rubber, this dense underlay gives the floor above a supportive, stable base. Its 4.5 mm profile offers a more substantial feel than thinner acoustic layers, while still being suitable for projects where floor height needs careful consideration.
Recolay 4.5 mm provides 17 dB impact sound reduction and is suitable for heavy domestic and general commercial use. Each roll covers 10 m², making it a practical choice for bedrooms, living rooms, landings and commercial interiors with laminate or engineered wood flooring.
CFS Recolay 4.5mm is an acoustic cork-and-rubber underlay designed for laminate and engineered wood floors. Confirm that the selected flooring manufacturer permits a 4.5mm underlay and that the complete system is suitable for the site, including any underfloor-heating requirements.
Prepare the subfloor so it is dry, smooth, level, clean and structurally sound. Remove debris, grease, old adhesive and loose material, and make good all surface defects before laying the underlay. Where a moisture barrier is required by the subfloor or finished-floor manufacturer, install the correct compatible system; Recolay is not a replacement for required damp protection.
Allow the underlay to acclimatise in the room, then roll it out flat with tight butt joints. Do not overlap lengths, leave gaps or allow folds and ridges to remain beneath the boards. Cut neatly around walls, door frames and fixed features.
Install the laminate or engineered wood floor in line with the board manufacturer’s fitting instructions. Maintain the specified expansion gap around the perimeter, fixed objects and door frames, then cover it with appropriate skirting, beading or transition trims. With underfloor heating, follow the heating and flooring manufacturers’ temperature guidance.

CFS Recolay 4.5mm Underlay remains below the finished laminate or engineered wood floor and has no routine cleaning requirements. The important ongoing care is to maintain the flooring above it in accordance with that floorcovering’s recommended cleaning method.
Keep the underlay dry and protected before installation. It should not be used to compensate for a wet, damaged or uneven subfloor, and any moisture issue beneath the finished floor should be investigated promptly.
Avoid puncturing or crushing the underlay during fitting. Once the finished floor is in service, use furniture protectors and follow the flooring manufacturer’s guidance to help preserve the complete floor system.
