Ball & Young Charleston 11 is a premium 11mm carpet underlay designed to make carpets feel softer, warmer and more comfortable underfoot. It is a strong choice for luxury domestic rooms where comfort is the priority, such as bedrooms, lounges and living rooms.
The thicker profile gives the carpet a deeper, more cushioned feel while the underlay’s recovery properties help it return to shape after normal foot traffic and furniture pressure. It provides a supportive base beneath the carpet, helping create a more comfortable finish across the room.
Charleston 11 also offers excellent sound and thermal insulation. It can reduce impact noise by up to 42dB and has a 2.9 tog rating, adding extra warmth between the carpet and the subfloor. The underlay is easy to lift and handle, making it straightforward for a professional fitter to install using the stretch-fit method.
Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, flat and secure before installation. Remove loose debris, protruding nails or screws, and any surface defects that may affect the final carpet finish.
Lay the underlay flat across the room, bringing adjoining lengths tightly together without overlapping. Trim accurately around walls, doors and fixed features, then tape all seams using suitable underlay tape.
Fit carpet gripper around the perimeter where required, then stretch-fit the carpet in accordance with the carpet manufacturer’s instructions. Connoisseur 8mm is intended for luxury domestic carpet installations, including areas with medium-to-high household use.
