Ball & Young Roma 6.9mm is a heavyweight rubber carpet underlay built for areas that need a firm, dependable base. Its dense flat sponge rubber construction helps support the carpet, reduces movement underfoot and gives a more controlled finish than softer domestic underlays.
Roma is particularly well suited to stairs, busy corridors and heavy-wear commercial spaces. Its low 0.8 tog rating also makes it a good option for carpet installations over underfloor heating, allowing heat to travel through more easily while still providing effective 31dB sound insulation.
Prepare the subfloor so it is clean, dry, smooth and secure. Remove loose debris, exposed fixings and uneven areas before installation to provide a stable base for the carpet system.
Lay Roma with the stitch-bonded crepe-paper surface facing upwards towards the carpet and the flat sponge-rubber side against the subfloor. Butt each length tightly to the next without overlapping, trim carefully at the perimeter and seal all seams with suitable underlay tape.
Use carpet gripper around the perimeter where required, then stretch-fit the carpet in accordance with the carpet manufacturer’s instructions. Roma is suitable for heavy-wear areas, stairs and compatible underfloor-heating systems where a firmer carpet fit is preferred.

Ball & Young Roma is installed beneath the carpet and does not require routine cleaning once fitted. Keep the carpet above clean and dry, and deal with leaks promptly to prevent moisture damage to the rubber underlay and subfloor.
If carpet is lifted for replacement or repair, inspect the underlay for signs of tearing, moisture damage or excessive compression. Replace any affected sections before fitting a new carpet.
