Make sure the subfloor is clean, dry, smooth and level before fitting. Roll the underlay out with the Vapourstop barrier facing as directed by the manufacturer, butt the joins tightly together and seal them using suitable vapour tape. Do not use it with electric-mat or dry underfloor heating systems. Follow the flooring manufacturer’s installation instructions.
Duralay Timbermate Excel is a high-density sponge rubber underlay designed for floating laminate and wood flooring. It provides a supportive base beneath the boards, helping the floor feel more stable while softening everyday footfall.
At 3.6 mm thick, it includes a built-in Vapourstop barrier to help protect against moisture rising from the subfloor. This makes it particularly useful over concrete and screed, while also helping to mask minor imperfections in a properly prepared subfloor.
Timbermate Excel reduces in-room noise by up to 30% and provides 23 dB impact sound insulation. With a low 0.55 tog rating, it is suitable for use with compatible wet underfloor heating systems.
Acclimatise the unopened flooring packs and underlay in the room before fitting. The subfloor should be dry, clean, smooth and structurally sound; repair significant hollows, high spots and loose areas before laying the underlay. Carry out the appropriate moisture checks before installation.
Lay Timbermate Excel flat beneath a compatible floating wood or laminate floor. Keep the lengths closely butted together without overlaps, and seal the joints with a suitable Vapourstop tape so the moisture barrier remains continuous. Trim the underlay accurately around door frames, service pipes and fixed features.
Install the floating floor in accordance with its fitting instructions, maintaining the required expansion gap around all walls, thresholds and fixed items. Do not use the underlay to compensate for major subfloor defects, and confirm that the chosen flooring is compatible with a 3.6mm underlay before installation.

Duralay Timbermate Excel is concealed beneath a floating wood or laminate floor and does not need routine cleaning. Maintain the finished floor in line with its manufacturer’s care guidance, using only cleaning methods suitable for the selected wood or laminate surface.
The integrated Vapourstop layer helps limit moisture transfer from below, but it is not a solution for an unsound or persistently damp subfloor. Investigate spills, leaks and excess moisture promptly, and avoid allowing water to sit at floor joints or room edges.
