Ball & Young Contract Cloud 9 is an 8mm carpet underlay made for busy areas where a firmer, more durable fitting is needed. It is suitable for both heavy contract and domestic use, making it a practical choice for hotels, communal spaces, hallways and homes that experience regular foot traffic.
The underlay provides a stable base beneath the carpet and is designed to absorb the impact of everyday use. Its 8mm profile offers a good balance between comfort and support, without adding too much height to the finished floor.
It also offers useful thermal and acoustic benefits, with a 2.0 tog insulation rating and impact sound reduction of between 35dB and 37dB. Cloud 9 Contract can be installed using either the stretch-fit or double-stick method, giving flexibility for different carpet installations.
Ultra-Fresh antimicrobial technology is built in to help keep the underlay and carpet fresher for longer by reducing the growth of fungi and bacteria.
Start with a clean, dry, smooth and stable subfloor. Remove loose debris, protruding fixings and surface imperfections to create a sound base for the underlay and carpet system.
Lay the 8mm underlay flat, bringing adjacent lengths together edge to edge without overlap. Trim it neatly around the perimeter and fixed features, then tape the joints securely with suitable underlay tape.
Cloud 9 Contract can be used with either stretch-fit or double-stick carpet installations. Use gripper and appropriate carpet-fitting methods for stretch-fit work, or use a compatible adhesive system where double-stick installation is specified. It is designed for heavy-contract and domestic settings where a firm carpet fit and good energy absorption are required.

Ball & Young Cloud 9 Contract 8mm is fitted beneath carpet, so it does not require routine cleaning once the flooring is in place. Maintain the carpet according to its care guidance and address spills or leaks promptly to protect the underlay and subfloor.
When the carpet is lifted for repair or replacement, inspect the underlay for compression, tearing or moisture damage. Replace any compromised sections before the new carpet is installed.
