Prepare the subfloor so it is clean, dry, smooth and structurally sound before laying the underlay. Install it flat with joints closely butted and follow the flooring manufacturer’s requirements for expansion gaps, moisture testing and the selected floor-covering system.
Universal 3mm Barrier Underlay is a lightweight polyethylene foam underlay designed to sit beneath floating wood and laminate flooring. It provides a supportive layer between the finished floor and the subfloor, helping the installation feel more even and protected in everyday use.
Its integrated barrier layer helps protect against damp rising from below, making it particularly useful when fitting over suitable concrete or mineral subfloors. Supplied in a practical 15m² roll, it is a straightforward choice for domestic and contract flooring projects.
Universal 3mm Barrier Underlay is a foam underlay with an integrated vapour barrier for suitable floating laminate and wood flooring installations. It provides a supportive layer beneath the boards while helping protect the floor from residual moisture rising through the subfloor.
Ensure the subfloor is clean, dry, level and structurally sound. Rectify major unevenness and confirm that the moisture condition and underlay choice meet the requirements of the chosen floorcovering before installation.
Roll the underlay out across the subfloor, keeping it flat and butting adjacent lengths closely together without overlap unless the product edge detail is designed for sealing. Tape joins securely with a suitable moisture-resistant tape to maintain a continuous barrier. Install the flooring as a floating floor, retaining the required expansion allowance around the perimeter.
This 3mm underlay is supplied in a roll covering approximately 15m². Refer to the selected flooring manufacturer’s fitting instructions before installation.

Universal 3mm Barrier Underlay sits beneath the finished floor and does not need separate routine maintenance. Care for the laminate or wood flooring above in accordance with its manufacturer’s recommendations, particularly around joins and edges where excess water should be avoided.
If the floor is lifted in the future, check the underlay for punctures, compression damage or unsealed joins. Replace damaged sections before refitting the floor to maintain a consistent base and moisture-barrier layer.
