The subfloor must be rigid, dry, clean and securely fixed before application. Mix STOPGAP 500 MICRO with clean water as directed, apply a thin, even coat with a finishing trowel and allow it to dry before fitting the final floor covering. Follow F. Ball’s current preparation and priming guidance for the specific substrate.
STOPGAP 500 MICRO is a rapid floor-finishing compound for creating a fine, smooth surface before installing floor coverings. Designed for rigid, dry and absorbent subfloors, it is particularly effective for closing plywood joints, covering minor imperfections and producing a feathered edge where a full smoothing compound is not needed.
Applied as a micro-coat by trowel, STOPGAP 500 MICRO dries quickly and provides a neat base for thin resilient floor coverings. The 8kg pack is a practical size for smaller preparation jobs, repairs and detailed finishing work.
STOPGAP 500 MICRO is a rapid-setting, water-mix floor finishing compound for creating a smooth feather finish on rigid, dry and absorbent internal subfloors. It is particularly useful for filling plywood joints and refining minor surface imperfections before thin resilient flooring is fitted.
Ensure plywood or hardboard is securely screw-fixed and that the surface is dry, sound and clean. Remove dust, loose material and contaminants before application. Use only on suitable rigid absorbent substrates, including sound existing smoothing compounds and sand/cement or calcium sulphate screeds.
Mix only the quantity that can be applied within the working time, following the water ratio in the current F. Ball technical data sheet. Trowel on as a micro-coat and feather the edges smoothly to achieve an even finish.
At an application thickness below 1mm and at 20°C, the surface is normally ready to receive floorcoverings after around 25 minutes. Drying times will vary with thickness and site conditions.

STOPGAP 500 MICRO is a fine finishing compound, not a final floor surface. Once it has dried, keep the prepared area clean, dry and protected from dust, moisture and site damage until the floorcovering is installed.
Before applying adhesive or laying the final flooring, check that the surface is smooth, fully dry and free from loose material. The care requirements thereafter will depend on the finished floorcovering.
