Ball & Young Cushilay 8mm is a practical PU foam carpet underlay made for everyday comfort at home. It gives carpet a softer, more welcoming feel underfoot while providing a supportive base beneath it. It is a sensible option when you want to improve a new carpet installation without choosing an overly thick underlay.
The 8mm profile works particularly well in bedrooms and living spaces, where comfort matters but a lighter, easier-to-handle underlay is preferred. Supplied in yellow packaging, each roll covers 15m² and is designed for stretch-fit carpet installation.
Prepare the subfloor so it is clean, dry, smooth and secure. Remove dust, loose debris, protruding nails or screws, and any uneven areas that could affect the carpet finish.
Lay the 8mm underlay flat across the room, keeping adjoining lengths tightly butted together without overlap. Trim accurately around walls, thresholds and fixed features, then tape the seams using suitable underlay tape.
Install carpet gripper around the perimeter where required, then stretch-fit the carpet in line with the carpet manufacturer’s instructions. This underlay is supplied in a 15m² pack for domestic carpet installations.

Ball & Young Cushilay 8mm is protected beneath the carpet and does not require regular maintenance once fitted. Maintain the carpet above as recommended and deal with spillages or water leaks quickly to prevent damp reaching the underlay and subfloor.
If the carpet is removed later, inspect the underlay for signs of compression, tears or moisture damage. Replace any affected sections before fitting replacement carpet.
